Fandom Meme - Silent Hill

Disclaimer: I’ve only played the first four games. And also, nobody asked me about Portal!

1. The first character I first fell in love with

James. James James James. He is such a fantastic little bundle of Not Right in the Head. I love what a detestable human being he is and the way the game very slowly, very subtly revealed that fact.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now

I didn’t expect to feel very much about Heather, but then she proved me wrong by being one of the most badass protagonists I’d seen in a long time. She cool.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t

Honestly can’t think of a character “everyone else” loves… except maybe Pyramid Head, but I definitely love him too. Our intrigue about him was what got my BFF and I to play the games in the first place.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates

Henry. Yeah, he was kind of a dumbass, but he was in a pretty bad situation. And he had to deal with Eileen!

5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer

There aren’t any characters in SH that I stop loving!

6. The character I would totally smooch

Walter, but I would not survive the encounter.

7. The character I’d want to be like

Heather, definitely. Or maybe Harry… he’s a really good guy.

8. The character I’d slap

EILEEN OH GOD EILEEN. GET OUT OF MY WAY STOP BEING HURT BY ME STOP BECOMING DEMONIC GOD YOU ARE SUCH A HASSLE

9. A pairing that I love

Pyramid Head/Pyramid Head.

10. A pairing that I despise

James/Maria. They’re both such unpleasant people that I can’t imagine how unpleasant they’d be together.

Actually… hmm. Maybe I can. Facade is pretty much what they would become! Except with more murdering and descending into the hellish turmoil of their own psyches.

Silent Hill

How I entered/learned about the said game/show/movie/etc of that fandom:
When I was in high school, a friend of mine brought Silent Hill 2 to my house because she’d heard that it was good. We started playing at maybe 6 PM that evening. Around 1 or 2 AM we had a complete existential meltdown about the impermanence of life and the meaninglessness of the universe. We cried in each others’ arms for about 15 minutes, then kept playing. We went to bed at maybe 8 or 9 AM and woke up at noon to finish the game. It was a good night.

Since then we’ve played all of the Silent Hills together (except Origins and Shattered Memories — they were after our time) and we’ve loved almost all of them. Silent Hill 4, in particular, brings up bad memories for us both. Gorgeous game, exciting concept, infuriating gameplay that made it impossible to complete.

Fave character
Definitely James and/or Pyramid Head. I may or may not have drawn a sexy picture of Pyramid Head several years ago… Aw hell. Here it is:

Least fave character
I like almost all of them, honestly. Eileen got on my nerves, though. Always getting hurt when I hit her when she walked in front of me. Bitch.

None whatsoever …Henry and Walter. Their love is so pure.

Pairing that everyone likes but I don’t get 
James and Harry. I mean, what? But I did read a really, really good fic about the two of them once—I think James was dead or something? I don’t know. There was gay sex in it, though. It was a good fic.

Fave thing about the fandom
I don’t actually know too much about the fandom. But the amount of cross-game buffoonery people come up with in fanart is really a lot of fun!

The most despised thing
Can’t think of something I despise about it, actually!

If there is something I would change from said game/show/movie/etc., what would it be.
Ergh… somehow, some way, try to make people make new SH games that capture the spirit and intent of the originals WITHOUT carbon copying them.
