Sometimes I ask for one-word prompts for little Portal fics, and I have filled a few more of the prompts (visitor, run, and shock). Here is the first set, here is the second, here is the third!
(The term “centuries” refers to the fact that each story is 100 words long.)
i had a fever/migrane induced dream about a HLxPortal game that i was playing and simultaneously being a character in it too?? And these guys looked sorta like this so I figured I could draw that … haha
what i mean when i call a character perfect is “wow look at how flawed you are, how broken and three dimensional and well written. look how much of a disaster you are and how you are constantly torn between right and wrong and you make so many mistakes along the way wow look how human you are”
so basically when i say they are perfect what i mean is thank god they aren’t
Just a PSA:
My blog has a hell of a lot of Portal tags on it that have a hell of a lot of Portal fanart in them, so (check) (them) (out) if you want to find some good artists and art.
Also my (silly) and (fandom) tags are full of interesting things and worth looking at, and in my (other) Portal tag list there are so many different Wheatley-related things it’s almost frightening.
I was just looking through these today and figured I’d make a post because maybe not everyone knows about them and there’s good and funny stuff in them!
PS I still do use this blog for collecting Portal fanart, just haven’t gotten around to it in a while, hopefully will again soon.
Given that he was built specifically to corrupt mechanical equipment, Wheatley proves himself a surprisingly competent sapper, and the Spy learns to live with the constant background chatter of his new weapon. Later, Mann Co contracts the Spy individually for an infiltration mission, and despite his better judgment he brings the thing along—but not before warning it that if it makes even a peep while they’re undercover, he will disassemble the wretched little pile of scrap and wires himself.
So the Spy disguises himself as a prominent government figurehead—no need for a low-key persona when the fund-starved company would roll out the star treatment for a man they believed might toss them some pity money—and enters the facility with great fanfare and little suspicion.
In a remote area of the company’s sprawling campus, the Spy makes quick work of executing his tour guides—“Oohhh, nasty business, that. Look at all that blood! Gushing, just positively gushing, wow…”—then sets to work gathering intel.
It’s only after his hasty exit that he realizes what he left behind.
Days later, a young researcher makes the grisly discovery, but blood-stained bodies are nothing new in Aperture. The researcher is far more interested in the strangely futuristic piece of technology the mysterious killer had left behind. He takes the talkative little thing up to the big-wigs and his discovery captures their interest.
Though it sounds a bit dim at first, it’s incredibly advanced, this thing, and it does seem to have a few good ideas…
Sometimes I think about the period of maybe two weeks in which everyone was really careful about not giving away Portal 2 spoilers. For the most part we were good about it, because how often does the world get a new single player Valve game?
Then people started writing and drawing things and all secrecy was lost in the best and most brilliant way
But man, such a weird thought now—there was a time when we were playing the Potato ARG, wondering what the hell potatoes could have to do with Portal, a time when Wheatley was our buddy, a time when people furiously debated whether “Caroline” from the teaser trailer was a character or just a random name!
Earlier today I suddenly remembered that the ‘Turret Lullaby’ comic is a thing that exists, and I realized that there may be some Portal fans who are unaware of all of the great media Valve has given us related to Portal. So here is a masterpost of all the official stuff I can think of. (More under the cut!)
Let me know if there’s anything I’m missing!
